Assessment and Certification (UKCA or UK(NI)-marking)
From 1 January 2021 European CE marks issued by EU
Notified Bodies will continue to be recognised in the UK. However,
from 1 January 2023 all blasting explosives, detonating cords,
detonators and propellants used commercially must bear the UKCA or
UK(NI) mark, if they are placed on the UK market.
Applications for certification must be made on the UK-EAB
application form [pdf, 271 kB] using the modular system for
assessing conformity. Usually, Module B, UKCA or UK(NI) Type
Examination, is supported by a quality system (Module D or E) or by
Module C (Conformity to Type). Module C2 involves UK-EAB in taking
samples of the manufacturer's production.
UK-EAB grants approval for the UKCA or UK(NI) mark to be
affixed to products that comply with the Essential Safety
Requirements of the Explosives Regulations 2014 (as amended).
The UKCA mark can be placed directly on the civil explosive
product or on an accompanying document until 31 December 2023. From
1 January 2024 the UKCA mark must be placed directly on the civil
explosive product itself.
Note: If you have problems downloading the
electronic version of the application form, please contact UK-EAB directly.
