World-class science in the service of health and
safety
For over a hundred years, HSE and our predecessors have
undertaken science and research on behalf of government and for
private organisations, helping them to understand and conrol health
and safety risks.
Our world-leading science is the core foundation that underpins
our services. We make workplaces healthier and safer; our
scientists and engineers live and breathe real-world health and
safety.
Every day the insight we gain as Great Britain's Health and
Safety regulator adds to our unique knowledge base.
We provide scientific and technical advice to support
governments and private sector companies in their everyday work as
well as in times of crisis or major change.
The lessons we learn from investigating major
incidents,
the cutting-edge evidence we generate and
synthesise from applied research,
our
work to address challenges from new working practices and
technologies…
…all underpin the UK's mature and well-developed health and
safety system.
Helping you to achieve health and safety
excellence
We offer organisations the opportunity to invest in a range of
products and services that give access to our experts, and
practical ways to apply our knowledge.

The HSE Science and Research Centre is an internationally
renowned science facility dedicated to occupational health and
safety. We employ scientific, medical and technical specialists in
a purpose-built laboratory on a 550-acre site. Situated near the
spa town of Buxton, Derbyshire, the HSE SRC is in the heart of the
Peak District National Park, yet has good links to mainline train
stations, Manchester International Airport and the motorway
network.

Sharing learning
We use networks and strategic partnerships - including those
with industry, academia, international research institutes and
co-regulators - to develop and synthesise evidence.
