Introduction

The purpose of the Biocidal Products Regulation (EU regulation No. 528/2012) is to improve the free movement of biocidal products within the EU whilst ensuring a high level of protection for humans and the environment. Active substances must gain approval in accordance with this regulation in order to access the market. One critical aspect of the regulatory process is the assessment of the potential environmental risk posed by the active substance.  Understanding the environmental fate of these substances and the impact this has on exposure is an important part of the overall risk assessment.

This course aims to give a thorough introduction to environmental fate and exposure assessments for active substance approval under the Biocidal Products Regulation.

The seminar will cover:

  • IUCLID and the ECHA CAR Template
  • The Core and Additional Dataset:
    • Ready Biodegradability Studies
    • Adsorption/desorption Studies
    • Hydrolysis Studies
    • Photolysis Studies
    • Simulation Studies
    • Emissions Modelling
    • Overview of Risk Assessment
    • Persistence Assessments
    • Regulatory updates - Technical Agreements for Biocides, Guidance on the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) Vol IV Parts B + C, ECHA releases, EU Exit, other relevant updates
