Introduction

HSE's Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) is running a one day Seminar  on use of alternatives to vertebrate studies for authorisation of plant protection products under Regulation EC 1107/2009.

Under Article 62 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 in vivo vertebrate tests should not be conducted for the purposes of fulfilling the requirements of the Regulation where accepted alternatives are available and could reasonably have been used.  This course provides information on the alternative methods available and how to apply them with respect to authorisation of plant protection products.

  • Legal framework of pesticide regulation and data requirements
  • Alternative methods available
    • OECD guidelines for in vitro methods for skin and eye irritation and skin sensitisation
    • OECD guidance document on integrated approach on testing and assessment for skin corrosion and irritation
    • The calculation method
    • Read-across from tests on different formulations
    • QSAR predictions
  • Choosing the right method
  • Problems with method reliability and conflicting findings
  • Justifications for submitting in vivo studies
  • Industry perspectives
  • In vivo studies conducted for other regulatory regimes / EU member states

Who should attend?

The event is specifically designed for technical and regulatory staff involved in the production and submission of data in support of plant protection product applications to CRD.

Venue

The event will be held at the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, St Maurice's Road, York YO31 7JA. Registration will begin from 09:00 am. The day will start at 09.30 am and finish around 4.30 pm.

Cost

The cost of this event is £450.00 (plus VAT) per person (includes event notes, lunch and refreshments).
