HSL is to run a 1 day course on Behaviour Change - Maintaining Your Behavioural Change Approach Using Observation.
Please email your expression of interest
Behavioural observation programmes are frequently used to reduce
accident rates by reducing the frequency of unsafe behaviours and
increasing the frequency of safe behaviours. They achieve this by
identifying and reinforcing safe behaviours. These programmes have
been shown to contribute to improving health and safety performance
across many sectors. However, organisations often find the
improvements quickly diminish. Observation programmes should,
therefore, usually only be considered as one tool from a much wider
behavioural change programme.
This course is delivered by our psychologists with extensive
experience in behavioural safety techniques. It gives you
techniques to better maintain your behavioural change approach and
embed safe behaviours.
This interactive course is designed to overcome the common
pitfalls encountered when implementing behavioural observation
programmes. It will also ensure that your programme is embedded
within a recognised behavioural change approach.
The course will cover:
- Defining behaviour
- How behavioural observation can benefit organisations
- Key communication skills
- Roles and responsibilities of the observation programme
- Techniques for effective identification of behaviours
- How to define the criteria for safe and unsafe behaviours
- Selecting and training appropriate observers
- Developing an observation strategy
- Positive reinforcement
- Monitoring, evaluation and learning from your programme
Who should attend?
This course is targeted directly at those who have previously
attended HSL's course Behaviour Change: Achieving Health
& Safety Culture Excellence, or H&S managers who
consider themselves to have a comprehensive behavioural change
programme in place within their organisation. Such a programme
should be mapped onto an integrated health and safety management
system and address the key ingredients of behavioural change
(support, knowledge, skill, leadership and worker involvement).
The course will be run at the Health & Safety Laboratory in
the spa town of Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District
and has good links to mainline train stations and Manchester
Details of hotels in the Buxton area can be found at www.visitbuxton.co.uk
The cost of this course is £600 per person (includes course
notes, lunch and refreshments).
Please note the invoice option is not available within 4
weeks of the course date, or for overseas customers. If you
are selecting the invoice option for payment, it will be mandatory
to input a purchase order/reference number as we are unable to
process booking forms without this.
