Book Now Button

HSL is to run a one-day course on Occupational Respiratory Disease, covering:

• Occupational Asthma
• Metal Cutting Fluids
• Laboratory Tests
• Asbestos Update

Dates
Monday 17 November 2008

Introduction
Occupational respiratory lung disease remains common and complex with up to 6,000 new cases being diagnosed each year (including occupational asthma). It continues to be a subject with a high public profile. While the classic diseases of dusty occupations have not yet disappeared, they may be on the decline. In contrast, mortality rates due to the chronic non-malignant pulmonary conditions including those characterised by airflow limitation are increasing in the industrialised countries of the world. They are also responsible for high rates of morbidity and extended periods of disablement. The established diagnosis of these diseases carries with it medical, financial, legislative and psycho-social issues.

Who should attend?
This course is suited to General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Respiratory Specialist Registrars, Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Occupational Health Physicians, Occupational Health Nurses or anyone providing occupational health services.

What you can expect from this course?

• An overview of occupational asthma explaining which workers are at risk.

• Interactive workshops on: peak flow monitoring and history taking; workplace and bronchial challenges; immunology, skin prick testing and spirometry.
