The course will be held at the Health and Safety Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire on the following dates:
Dates
Tuesday 2 December - Friday 5 December 2008
Tuesday 24 March - Friday 27 March 2009
Introduction
Manual handling remains one of the main causes of occupational injuries within the UK and 4.9 million working days are lost due to back pain every year.
Prevention and control of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) is currently one of HSE’s major priorities and as such a new risk assessment method called the MAC tool has recently been developed, as well as a major revision of the Guidance to the Manual Handling Regulations.
Training your workforce helps you to:
• Ensure people are not injured or made ill by the work they do;
• Develop positive health and safety culture, where safe and health working becomes second nature to everyone;
• Ensure health and safety is being better managed as a whole;
• Make sure companies meet their legal duty to protect the health and safety of all employees.
This course will equip you with the knowledge to recognise, assess and reduce manual handling risks in your organisation, and furthermore to pass on the knowledge you are given to others in your workforce so that they may also benefit through manual handling risk recognition and a good approach to manual handling technique.
Who should attend?
The course is especially suited for those with little or no training experience who wish to train work groups in basic risk awareness, manual handling and simple assessment methods and provide employers with detailed manual handling risk assessments.
Who will present?
HSL scientists and consultants who are experts in the field of applied ergonomics will provide the manual handling training content according to HSE’s guidance and regulations. The training skills and techniques content will be delivered by a professional training consultant.
Venue
The course will be run at the new HSL laboratory in the spa town
of Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
links to mainline train stations and Manchester International Airport.
The cost of the course is £995 + VAT per person (includes course notes, lunch, refreshments and a course
dinner on the second night).
