Training - BOHS - P403 Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM)
HSL is to run a two day course on BOHS - P403 Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM)
This course will be held at the Health
and Safety Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire on the
following date:
Date
Wednesday 29 October to Thursday 30 October 2008
Introduction
The aim of this BOHS Proficiency Module
is to provide a general introduction to the
theoretical and practical aspects of fibre
counting of asbestos air samples using
phase contrast microscopy (PCM). On
successful completion of the module,

and carry out the approved HSE methods
for correctly setting up air sampling
equipment and for fibre counting.
This is a practical subject and most of the
course will involve hands-on microscope
work. Candidates with no prior

advantageous to either obtain some
practical experience before attending the
course, or defer sitting the practical

At the end of the course there is a short

includes microscope set up and fibre
counting of RICE slides. Candidates that
are successful in both parts of the
examination are awarded the BOHS P403
Proficiency Module.
