 HSL is to run a five-day course on BOHS - S301 Asbestos and Other Fibres.

Introduction
This course aims to guide the student
towards the requirements of the British
Occupational Hygiene Society
Examination Asbestos and Other Fibres,
(S301) Specialist Module. The main
objectives of the course are to enhance
the student’s knowledge of occupational
hygiene practice in relation to fibrous
dusts. The module concentrates on
asbestos, but other fibres like MMMF,
zeolites and aramids are also covered.
Successful completion of this module will
benefit those working in asbestos
consultancy as well as mainstream
occupational hygiene. It will help to
provide an understanding of the health
risks associated with asbestos and other
fibres, as well as the means of effective
evaluation and control strategies.
At HSL this module is run as a mainly
practical course using our modern state of
the art laboratory facilities.
At the end of the course there is a
written examination that includes
multiple choice and an essay type
question. Successful completion of this
module forms the first part of the BOHS
Certificate of Competence in Asbestos at an additional cost of £90 + VAT.

- Introduction to asbestos mineralogy and uses
- Health effects of asbestos and control limits
- Asbestos legislation and guidance
- Sampling and analysis of asbestos in air
and bulk samples
- Asbestos building surveys
- Asbestos removal and the 4-stage clearance
Who should attend?
The course is specifically designed for analysts,
consultants, surveyors, project managers and
duty holders.
Venue
The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town
of Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
links to mainline train stations and Manchester International Airport.
The cost of the course is £1200+£90 certificate fee plus VAT per person (includes
course notes, lunches, dinner on the 2nd night at a local restaurant & refreshments).
