HSL is to run a one day course on Bio-Safety Workshop

and Safety Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire on the

Introduction
The UK continues to be at the forefront
of research and development in the areas
of life sciences, pharmaceuticals and
biotechnology. Potential risks associated
with handling biological agents and their
products in these industries need to be
assessed and managed.
The introductory course summarises the
current regulations and provides practical
guidance into safe working with
biological agents in Containment Level 2
and 3 laboratories. The course concludes
with an informal session for questions
and discussion of issues with HSL's
technical experts.
What will the course cover?
- Current regulations and guidance
- Lab design requirements and
containment of biological material
- Safe handling of biological material,
including Genetically Modified
Organisms
- Potential routes of contamination and
exposure
- Practical aspects of Containment Level 2 & 3 labs
Who should attend?
H&S Managers and Biological Safety Officers in
the pharmaceutical, bio-pharmaceutical and
biotechnology industries, biological research
laboratories and any staff who work with
biological material.
Venue
The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town
of Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
links to mainline train stations and Manchester International Airport.
The cost of the course is £395 + VAT per person (includes
course notes, lunch and refreshments).
