Training - Managing Sickness Absence and Return to Work
HSL is to run a one-day training course on Managing Sickness Absence and Return to Work.
The course will be held at the Health
and Safety Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire on the
following date:
Date
Monday 1 December 2008
Introduction
Sickness absence remains a major cost to UK employers. For the UK as a whole, the total costs are considerable. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s latest employee absence survey suggests sickness absence is a major cost to 90% of businesses, resulting in an average cost per employee of £659 every year.
This situation is not inevitable. Tackling sickness absence at the supervisory level makes good business sense. This practically focused workshop is designed to provide supervisors and line managers with the knowledge and techniques to help them minimise the impact of sickness absence in their teams.
The course will cover:
- Background to the sickness absence issue – real costs and impact.
- Understanding the causes of sickness absence.
- The differences between short term and long term absence.
- Measuring sickness absence – when does it become an issue?
- Approaches to managing sickness absence.
- Overcoming possible barriers to managing sickness absence.
Presenters include:
David Fox -
Occupational Psychologist with over 19 years' experience providing occupational guidance and counselling.
Anil Adisesh - Consultant Occupational Health Physician (expertise in all areas of occupational health and fellow of FOM).
Who should attend?
Line managers and supervisors who have staff management responsibilities.
The cost of the course is £395 + VAT (to include
course notes, lunch and refreshments).
