RPE Fit Test Introductory Workshop
HSL is to run a 1 day course on RPE Fit Test Introductory Workshop.
This course will be held at the Health and Safety
Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire.
21 October 2010
Introduction
The UK spends in excess of £500 million annually on Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE), yet much of this investment is wasted
because of poor selection and use. For Respiratory Protective
Equipment (RPE), a significant proportion has historically been
incorrectly sized and poorly fitted which defeats the object of
wearing RPE. Fit testing prevents money being wasted on poorly
selected RPE that does not fit the wearer, and boosts employee
confidence in their RPE.
This course will train you in the methods of fit testing. It
will enable you to carry out fit testing, helping to reduce any
wasted resources being poured into RPE.
The course is aimed at all personnel involved in RPE selection
and fitting in the workplace in any industry. It will introduce fit
testing to complete beginners and cater equally well for those who
have been involved in fit testing for some time. It will provide a
forum for discussing RPE problems confidentially with the experts
or openly amongst other attendees. Those who complete the course
will receive a certificate of attendance.
Each course will cover:
- Quantitative and qualitative fit testing
- Current UK legislation
- Correct donning and pre-wear checks
- Quantitative fit testing for FFP2, FFP3, half and full face
masks
- Qualitative fit testing for FFP2
- Safety aspects of RPE
- Record keeping
The training will be provided by:
Mike Clayton - Mike is a Senior Scientist at
HSL with considerable experience in respiratory protective
equipment and was the co-author of the HSE guide to fit testing.
Mike develops and delivers training to HM Inspectors on RPE and fit
testing. He also represents HSE on British, European and
International standard committees for RPE.
Venue
The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town of
Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
links to mainline train stations and Manchester International
Airport.
The cost of each course is £425 + VAT (includes course notes,
lunch and refreshments).
