HSL is to run a 2 day course on Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Fit Testing: Advanced.
This course will be held at the Health and Safety
Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire.
11 - 12 January 2011
Introduction
Concern over the quality of RPE fit testing in the UK has led to
the development of a competency scheme, known as 'Fit2Fit'. This
advanced course is suitable for those who are well on the way to
becoming competent fit testers and are possibly considering
applying for accreditation under the Fit2Fit scheme. This course
will provide training covering the syllabus of the Fit2Fit scheme
and is suitable for those wishing to refine their skills in
preparation for Fit2Fit accreditation.
Prior experience
It is essential that delegates have experience of fit testing
covering the relevant range of tight fitting facepieces
Additionally, delegates should be conversant with HSE guidance
HSG53 and HSE 282/28.
This is a 2-day advanced course covering both quantitative and
qualitative fit testing methods. However, if you are experienced in
only the qualitative method, and therefore advanced training in the
quantitative method is not appropriate for you, you can complete
the relevant aspects of the course in 1 day. You will be asked to
indicate this when booking your place on the course, and this will
be reflected in the cost.
Delegates will need to bring along their own fit test equipment
for use during the practical sessions.
Course includes:
- Knowledge of RPE
- The role of fit testing
- Principles of fit testing
- Qualitative fit testing using either Bitrex or Saccharin -
theory and practical
- Quantitative fit testing using the Portacount both with and
without the N95 Companion/Technology - theory and practical*
- Troubleshooting
*Optional: If you wish to receive training in both fit testing
methods (quantitative and qualitative) please select the 2-day
course when making your booking. If you select the 1-day course
this will cover qualitative fit testing only it will not include
training in quantitative (Portacount) fit testing.
Who should attend:
Experienced fit testers who are seeking additional training,
including those aiming for Fit2Fit accreditation.
