Human Vibration Measurement
HSL is to run a 1 day course on Human Vibration Measurement.
This course will be held at the Health and Safety
Laboratory, Harpur Hill, Buxton, Derbyshire.
13 January 2011
Introduction
On 6 July 2005 the
Control of Vibration at Work Regulations came into force. These
regulations implement the Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive and
impact on businesses employing people exposed to both hand-arm and
whole-body vibration. The Regulations define the legal obligations
on employers to assess and control risks from vibration
exposure.
The course is intended for those who are planning to assess
hand-arm and whole-body vibration exposure and require the
expertise to make measurements themselves or to evaluate
measurements made on their behalf. It would be of value to anyone
wanting practical experience in human vibration measurement.
The workshops will cover:
- Legislation
- Standards
- Instrumentation
- Calibration techniques
- Measurement planning
- Hands on measurement experience for both hand arm and whole
body vibration
The training will be provided by:
Paul Pitts - has been a specialist in noise and
vibration for over 25 years. His work has covered noise exposures
ranging from mining to the entertainment industry, whole-body
vibration exposure from anything from forestry to port vehicles,
and a wide range of work on hand-arm vibration including
instrumentation, workplace exposures, power tool emissions and
anti-vibration gloves. He was responsible for International
Standards ISO 5349-2:2001 and ISO 8041:2005 that provide guidance
on how to assess hand-arm vibration exposure in the work place and
define human vibration instrumentation. He is currently the
convenor for both European and International standards working
groups on hand-arm vibration and was also the principal author of
guidance for the European Community on hand-arm and whole-body
vibration exposure in the workplace.
Venue
The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town of
Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
