The Society of Occupational Medicine have dedicated an
entire edition of the Occupational Medicine Journal to HSL's
centenary.
The August issue celebrates 100 years of
HSL's mission to enable a better working Britain
and includes
papers relating to: health surveillance for noise and hand-arm
vibration; mortality and cancer among agricultural pesticide users
and behavioural interventions for dermal and respiratory
hazards. There is also an editorial from HSL's Director of
Science Dr Andrew Curran, which charts HSL's evolution from an
experimental coal dust explosion facility in Cumbria to the
world-leading, scientific research organisation it is today.
HSL regularly provides papers to Occupational Medicine on a
diverse nature of topics and over the last five years has
been the journals' most frequent single contributor. For
this reason, a special virtual issue has been produced
which can be accessed online by subscribers to the journal.
A special centenary podcast has also been produced.
It features interviews with HSL staff discussing some of
the papers which they have submitted to the
journal over the years.
