Oil, Gas, Chemical and Process Sector
The Oil, Gas, Chemical and Process sector contains a large
number of incredibly dynamic, forward-thinking companies -
companies which are always pushing the boundaries in research,
development and production. In recent times, this sector has seen
an overall increase in automation - and with it, regulation - along
with a shift in the demographic of its workforce. Investing in
health and safety has never been more vital to the sector's
success.
Why choose HSL?
If
you're trying to decrease downtime and increase productivity, HSL's
unequalled knowledge, expertise and experience will help you to
keep your plant - and the people in it - working safely,
effectively and efficiently. Working with some of the finest test
facilities in Europe, our scientists and risk-assessment experts
are ideally placed to identify and reduce potential hazards or
risks, delivering measurable business benefits in the process.
How can we help?
We offer practical, tailored advice and solutions in the
following areas:
- Fire, explosion and process safety. We have
the specialist, large-scale facilities needed to perform tests with
explosive, flammable and energetic materials. Our expert teams
study exothermic and runaway reactions, gas and dust explosions in
both confined and open spaces and look at the sources of ignition
and ways of controlling them. Using advanced computer-based
modelling (including CFD) or simulating real-life situations in
spaces such as tunnels or warehouses, we can look at the behaviour
of fire, coming up with systems and devices to help prevent it. We
can also assess the hazards posed by high-pressure systems.
In addition to all the above, we can advise your organisation on
technical developments, as well as carrying out UN-related and ATEX
Directive testing. HSL also houses the GB Explosives Notified Body
(ENB), which certifies the safety and transfer arrangements for a
number of explosive materials.
- Safe behaviour for workers. A plant is only as
'healthy' and 'safe' as the people who work in it; which is why we
offer advice, studies and guidance on 'human factors' such as alarm
handling, control-room design and the risk associated with fatigue.
We can show you how to encourage and improve your organisation's
safety culture, help you and your workers to choose the right kind
of personal protective equipment and to use it properly and
safely.
- Risk Assessment. We use a number of proven
techniques to identify hazards, analyse their consequences and
estimate the overall risk.
- Occupational Health. As part of a Workplace
Health Review, we can use advanced toxicological software to
measure your workers' exposure to organic chemicals, pesticides,
metals or trace elements in biological samples.
