Band 3/4 Materials Scientist

Location: Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), Buxton, Derbyshire
Salary: Band 3 circa £27k  Band 4 circa £22k

The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is an agency of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and is a unique multidisciplinary organisation with an international reputation as the UK’s leading health and safety facility. With a new purpose built laboratory, excellent technical facilities and highly qualified staff, HSL has a sound foundation for further growth.

Your role
The key responsibilities will be to carry out and manage a wide range of projects primarily in the areas of structural integrity, fracture mechanics and corrosion. The work will support HSE's strategy on controlling risk on mainly high hazard plant. The preparation of reports and the publication and presentations of papers will be an important component of the post.

Person requirements
A good degree in metallurgy, materials or mechanical engineering.

Substantial experience of carrying out structural integrity related research.

Demonstrates sound knowledge and expertise effectively in the field of structural integrity;
Plans, organises and prioritises work effectively;
Delivers quality and timely results.
