Centre for Interdisciplinary NanoResearch at HSL (CiNR)
Research & Projects
The new Centre for Interdisciplinary NanoResearch at HSL successfully brings together expertise across the whole laboratory and is uniquely placed to address the potential health and safety risks from nanoparticles.
The nature of HSL’s research is inter-disciplinary, utilising well-equipped facilities and staff with the expertise to assess the potential health and safety issues associated with the manufacture and use of nanoparticles.
This includes:
- Workplace monitoring and environmental exposure assessment;
- Particle characterisation;
- Control and filtration;
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) including respiratory protective equipment (RPE);
- Explosion and fire assessment and control;
- Toxicology assessment;
- PBPK (Physiologically-based pharmacokinetic) modelling;
- Biological monitoring;
- Risk assessment;
- Horizon scanning.
HSL participates in work funded by several different sources.
These include HSL/HSE funded research, EU funded research and projects funded from other sources.
