Bespoke IP and Products
In addition to Crown Copyright materials and
data derived from our
services, HSL also undertakes licensing of bespoke IP and
products that are generated from our work.
Examples include:
- The Fluorescence Interactive Video Exposure System
(FIVES) is a fluorescence monitoring apparatus developed
by HSL to allow the measurement of dermal exposure to chemicals in
the workplace. The FIVES IP has been licensed to Safe Training Systems Limited who market the
system as the 'Whole Body Surface monitoring Fluorimeter'
(SMF3).
- The Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) training
model is a flexible system of components (fans, ducts,
capture hoods, etc.) used to demonstrate the fundamental principles
of an industrial LEV system. It was developed and validated
by HSL scientists and HSE Specialist Inspectors and won a British
Safety Industry Federation Product Innovation award in
2008. The tabletop model can be set up in multiple
configurations and used to train designers, engineers and end-users
of LEV systems. The model is now manufactured and sold under
licence from HSL by Mechanical Products Limited. For more
information (including purchase details) please see our product pages.
- The Microdrone Air Sampling System was
developed and validated by HSL and can sample and detect the levels
of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) that may be present in smoke
plumes or chimney emissions, etc. through which an unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV or microdrone) may be flown. The air sampling
system is licensed to the UK microdrone suppliers, MW Power Systems Ltd.
If you have an interest in working with HSL to jointly develop
new technologies, or wish to discuss the possibilities of licensing
