The Questionnaire

The questionnaire was developed from the renowned and respected HSE Climate Survey Tool. The revision process has refined the tool so that it is a more reliable and valid psychometric instrument, and as a result it is more useful to both public and private sector organisations.

The questionnaire is designed so that people rate their responses to the statements on a 1 to 5 point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. It is purposely designed to seek the views of all levels of the workforce so that their results can be compared.

Some statements are worded negatively so as not to 'lead' respondents towards one particular viewpoint. For example, "People here are sometimes pressured to work unsafely by their workmates" and "Management only bother to look at health and safety after there has been an accident".
