Clinical Director of the Centre
David Fishwick MBChB, FRCP (London), FRCP (Glasgow), AFOM, MD
David
gained qualifications in occupational medicine whilst training in
respiratory medicine, and this combination of skills has enabled
him to develop a comprehensive facility for the diagnosis and management
of work related and environmental lung disorders. His research interests
include all aspects of occupational respiratory disease, having
spent two research sabbaticals in this area (one at the Wythenshawe
Hospital, Manchester, and one at the Wellington Asthma Research
Group, New Zealand). In particular, he is involved in projects that
include aspects of workplace exposure modelling, physiological assessment,
in vivo and in vitro studies and more recently as the national coordinator
for the group of occupational disease specialists, a national group
of experts involved in implementing national audit and research
into occupational respiratory ill health. In his scholastic role
David carries out a diverse range of lecturing and examining roles
for a variety of health care workers. David is an associate Editor
of Occupational Medicine, and sits on the SWORD advisory committee.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and
London, and sits on the British Thoracic Society research committee.

Andrew Curran BSc (Hons) PhD CBiol MIBiol
Andrew's
research interests include the immunological consequences resulting
from workplace exposure to respiratory hazards, biological effect
monitoring, physiological testing following exposure to physical
and chemical hazards and the challenges faced in the delivery of
quality occupational health services. He has been invited to give
lectures in this field to a variety of audiences, and has successfully
supervised a number of MSc, MD and PhD students. He has established
strong collaborative links with other groups in local hospitals,
amongst occupational health care professionals and Universities,
and is an active member of the steering group for the global workplan
of the WHO Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health Network.
He Chairs the multi-agency Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire Occupational
Health Group. He has published work on occupational asthma caused
by low molecular weight chemicals and other aspects of occupational
lung disease, and he is an assistant editor of Occupational Medicine.
Andrew holds an honorary position at the University of Sheffield
and in 2002 he was elected an Honorary Member of the Society of
Occupational Medicine.
