Respiratory Protective Equipment

HSL is Britain's leading health and safety facility and has a long history of involvement in performance standards, testing, development and provision of advice on all forms of Respiratory Proective Equipment (RPE). HSL provided a unique portfolio of skills and expertise to both public and private sector organisations and offers:

• unrivalled experience
• impartial and independent assessment of design and performance of a full range of RPE

volunteer with maskOperating as an agency of the Health and Safety Executive, HSL is well placed to provide independent, informed and impartial research, technical support, advice and guidance. This expertise is available to you for:

• forensic investigations;
• research into RPE performance under both laboratory and real workplace conditions;
• development of prototype equipment;
• assessment of equipment prior to submission for CE marking;
• product surveillance;
• consultancy and training.

HSL has several unique test facilities including:

• the only test facilities in the UK which use tracer gas to measure RPE fit and leakage;
• a mobile test chamber that can bring this technique to your own installation.

HSL can offer investigations of all forms of respiratory protective equipment from filtering face pieces to closed circuit breathing apparatus, and now extending to diving equipment.

HSL continues to be actively involved in the development of technical standards in these areas at British, European and international levels, while remaining outside the CE certification system itself.
